How did my journey begin?
So how did I become a maternity nurse?
Well, after my two children had grown up, I wanted a caring profession. So, I trained to be a nurse as a mature student, and the baby ward was my favourite.
This inspired me to take on a degree in midwifery… but then I found myself incredibly drawn to the end of the process, the postnatal period.
My first placement as a maternity nurse led to many over the last twenty years, and I have continually broadened my bank of knowledge. I combined my love of travel with my work and have had the privilege of sharing my skills with families in over 40 different countries.
I left each of these placements having learnt something new, but most importantly left happy parents who knew how to confidently care for their new-born babies (and themselves in their new family life).
But now the time has come to pack away my suitcase as I want to spend more time with my family, grandchildren, and friends…. but I’m still devoted to my work.
So now I am the ‘Sage Maternity Nurse’ who is available to help parents remotely wherever they are, thanks to the wonders of technology. I no longer live-in, but I am on the end of a phone line or on FaceTime or WhatsApp, offering advice, guidance, and reassurance to my clients.
I chose this name for my business as a Sage is a wise person (through experience and reflection), and Sage the herb has soothing and medicinal properties (I love the smell and its colour). All these things resonate with me.
If you would like to know more about my background or have a conversation to find out if we would like to work together, please do get in touch.
