Sage Maternity Nurse
Helping new mothers find their way
“You’re an intelligent, capable woman who’s handled a lot in her life. But now you have a new challenge – and it’s unlike anything you have tackled before. A newborn baby.”
Becoming a mum for the first time is incredible.
It can also be incredibly physically and emotionally demanding.
Your body is not only recovering from the birth, your mind is adapting to a new way of life and learning how to care for your tiny person.
On the job. Moment to moment.
And – as every child and every mother is different – reading books, searching online, or listening to advice from friends and relatives only takes you so far. Everyone has a different version of ‘right’. It’s confusing and so hard to know what to take on board or try.
Suddenly you have this huge responsibility but not all the knowledge or confidence you need to be able to handle it. You are going through a huge life shift – but you’re not sure how to make the transition and still feel like you.
You want to be a good mum – and make this precious time enjoyable and fun; for you, your baby and your new family unit. You don’t want to feel baffled, exhausted or overwhelmed.
Don’t worry. You are not alone. I am here to help.
So how did I become a maternity nurse?
Well, after my two children had grown up, I wanted a caring profession. So, I trained to be a nurse as a mature student, and the baby ward was my favourite.
This inspired me to take on a degree in midwifery… but then I found myself incredibly drawn to the end of the process, the postnatal period.
My first placement as a maternity nurse led to many over the last twenty years, and I have continually broadened my bank of knowledge. I combined my love of travel with my work and have had the privilege of sharing my skills with families in over 40 different countries.
I left each of these placements having learnt something new, but most importantly left happy parents who knew how to confidently care for their new-born babies (and themselves in their new family life).
But now the time has come to pack away my suitcase as I want to spend more time with my family, grandchildren, and friends…. but I’m still devoted to my work.
So now I am the ‘Sage Maternity Nurse’ who is available to help parents remotely wherever they are, thanks to the wonders of technology. I no longer live-in, but I am on the end of a phone line or on FaceTime or WhatsApp, offering advice, guidance, and reassurance to my clients.
I chose this name for my business as a Sage is a wise person (through experience and reflection), and Sage the herb has soothing and medicinal properties (I love the smell and its colour). All these things resonate with me.
If you would like to know more about my background or have a conversation to find out if we would like to work together, please do get in touch.
All advice is non-medical. I will always advise you to contact your health professional if you have medical concerns.
My Approach
“I don’t believe in ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to working with my clients. You and I will become a team. We’ll work together to help you find your way in your new life as a mother and create a joyful, thriving family. Yes, I have 20 years of knowledge to pass on, but I will do this by being empathetic and tailoring my approach to whatever you need. The first step in our partnership is to have a great conversation about you, your situation and what you need. But before we do that, please do look through my frequently asked questions to get a snapshot of how I work and how I can help.”
